On 3rd July, 1917, 20th London of 141 Brigade, 47th Division, left Ontario Camp and moved into the front line in the southern part of the Ypres salient, north of the canal. As always, but particularly so at this time with the build up to the major British offensive at the end of the month in progress, the German artillery was very much in evidence but on 6th July it increased considerably and at 11pm a ration party from A Company was hit by a shell which killed six men and wounded another six. The records show that George Wallis was killed on 7th July but he may have been one of those killed in this incident. |
